RESOLUTIONS SUBMITTED PRIOR TO CONVENTION
Resolutions are due into the ATNI office two weeks prior to the convention. ATNI staff will notify Committee Chairs of deadline for submission at least 1 month prior which includes access to the forms. All resolutions submitted on time will be sent to the appropriate committee during the convention.
1. Resolutions submitted electronically with Submission Form two weeks before convention
to ATNI
2. ATNI will verify resolution is formatted and submitted by member in good standing.
RESOLUTIONS SUBMITTED AT CONVENTION
1. An individual member in good standing presents a properly formatted resolution to
appropriate committee.
2. Committee Chair will present the resolution to the workroom, along with
Submission/Action Form, Flash Drive, and Hard Copy.
3. Workroom staff reviews with Committee Chair the resolution format for
acceptability.
4. The resolution is assigned a number and logged in on the Resolution index form.
PROPER SUBMISSION OF RESOLUTIONS
A resolution is the policy mechanism utilized by ATNI to shape and identify the organizational positions on any federal, state, local, or/or tribal legislation, litigation, policy, or issues that affect the welfare and rights of American Indian and Alaska Native governments or communities. These issues include sovereignty, treaty rights, trust responsibilities, health, housing, education, and other physical, spiritual, traditional, cultural customs and practices of American Indian and Native Alaskan.
According to ATNI By-laws, in order to submit a resolution you must be a member in good standing. To be a member in good standing, you must have paid your membership dues for the year and be registered at this convention.
Deadline for resolutions is 7:00 p.m. Tuesday of the convention. Committee reports are due by 6:00 p.m. Wednesday.
Resolutions must be in proper format. Language should clearly identify what position or actions that you want ATNI to take. Comparatively a resolution should be a brief paragraph of position or action you want ATNI to take. The “Therefore” is your conclusion while each “Whereas” must include only one objective that supports your conclusion.
