This program supports tribes preparing for extreme events and harmful environmental trends that impact tribal treaty and trust resources, economies, infrastructure, and human health and safety. The Program will provide funding for projects that support tribal resilience and ocean and coastal management planning as tribes incorporate science (including Traditional Knowledge) and technical information to prepare for the impacts of extreme events and harmful environmental trends. There are seven award categories:<\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li><u>Adaptation Planning (Categories 1-3)<\/u>\n<ul type=\"circle\">\n<li>Category 1. Trainings and Workshops (maximum: $150,000)<\/li>\n<li>Category 2. Adaptation Planning (maximum: $150,000)<\/li>\n<li>Category 3. Travel Support for Adaptation Planning (maximum: $15,000)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><u>Ocean and Coastal Management Planning (Categories 4-5)<\/u>\n<ul type=\"circle\">\n<li>Category 4. Ocean and Coastal Management Planning (maximum: $150,000)<\/li>\n<li>Category 5. Travel Support &#8211; Ocean &#038; Coastal (maximum: $15,000)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><u>Capacity Building (Category 6)<\/u>\n<ul type=\"circle\">\n<li>Category 6. Capacity Building for Scoping Efforts to Support future Category 2 Proposal development<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><u>Relocation, Managed Retreat, or Protect-in-Place Planning (Category 7)<\/u>\n<ul type=\"circle\">\n<li>Category 7. Planning for Relocation, Managed Retreat, or Protect-in-Place Activities for Coastal and Riverine Communities (maximum: $150,000)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The\u00a0solicitation is for\u00a0federally-recognized tribes\u00a0and tribal organizations* (as defined by 25 U.S.C. Section 5304(1)). Those awards do not include travel support. Rachel highlighted that this year\u2019s award includes a new category that is meant to provide increased support to tribal communities in planning for relocation, managed retreat, or protect-in-place planning (category 7). The 2020 funding opportunity gives tribes a two-year timeframe for projects.
