Mission Statement
The Northwest Indian Veterans Association (NIVA), a nonprofit organization serving as the Veterans Committee of the Affiliated Tribes of Northwest Indians by Resolution #89-32, was founded to serve the needs of the Northwest Indian Veteran Community. It was created to insure access to the Veterans Administration health care systems and all entitlement and benefits. It was also established to identify programs and agencies that can assist our Indian veterans in improving their quality of life, economically, socially and health wise. Special efforts are underway to educate state and federal agencies on our unique cultural and spiritual needs.
The Portland/Vancouver Chapter, NIVA The Vancouver Northwest Indian Veterans Outreach Office serves American Indian Veterans and their families/survivors. The office helps veterans in obtaining access to medical and other veterans' services, regardless of agency jurisdiction. The office continues to establish a network of Points of Contact for various agencies to help access to services. Outreach services include locating and maintaining current information on services available through state, federal, private industry and charitable agencies for referral of the veterans and their families. Outreach is provided throughout the Northwest via the tribal Veterans Representatives. Resources gathered in Vancouver are shared, in the resources book, with the Representatives who provide outreach to the Veterans and their families on their reservations.
