Overview

ATNI’s Tribal Relations in the Clean Energy Sector Workshop will convene non-Tribal and tribal partners to learn, share information, and advance collaborative partnerships with Tribes in the clean energy sector.

Where: Tulalip Resort and Casino

When: June 13, 2023

Workshop Structure

This workshop is structured to go “beyond checking the box.”  Participants in this workshop will learn about the legal foundations of Federal Indian Law, Tribal Sovereignty, and the Federal Trust Responsibility, tying into energy sector law and policy.   An overview of Tribal consultation requirements under the Natural Historic Preservation Act and the National Environmental Policy Act will then prepare participants for a discussion of case studies. Best practices and professionally responsible approaches for engaging and consulting with Tribal governments will be shared with workshop participants, followed by a regional example of Tribal renewable energy. A resource list will be provided to workshop participants which details recommended readings, additional case studies, and applicable federal laws.
