FISHERIES & TIMBER MEETINGS
ANNOUNCEMENT ONE
At the August 1, 2009 meeting with Larry Echohawk, Assistant Secretary for Indian Affairs, U.S. Department of the Interior, hosted by the Squaxin Island Tribe, a number of Native nations informed the Assistant Secretary of the difficult challenges they are facing in the marketing of fishery and timber resources. The Sealaska Native Corporation, a corporation created under the Alaska Natives Claims Settlement Act and the Northwest Indian Fisheries Commission are convening a meeting of Native nations on these issues on Wednesday, September 2, 2009, in Sealaska's offices in Bellevue, Washington. The purpose of the meeting would be to focus on developing effective solutions to these challenges, discuss best practices and marketing strategies that have been successfully employed by Native entities. To facilitate participation in the meeting, Sealaska and the Northwest Indian Fisheries Commission (NWIFC) are offering their video-conference capacities for those Native nation representatives that may be closer to one of the video-conferencing centers of the NWIFC or Sealaska. The meetings will begin at 9:00 a.m. on September 2nd. For those who wish to participate in person, the Sealaska offices are located at 13810 S.E. Eastgate, Suite 420, Bellevue, Washington. 98065-9779 If your nation or Native organization is interested in participating, please R.S.V.P. to Suzanne Sund, NWIFC, at 360 438 1180, or ssund@nwifc.org, or June Koval, Sealaska Native Corporation, at 425-283-0602 or june.koval@sealaska.com, by close of business, Friday, August 28, 2009.

RENEWABLE ENERGY MEETING
ANNOUNCEMENT TWO
At the August 1, 2009 meeting with Larry Echohawk, Assistant Secretary for Indian Affairs, U.S. Department of the Interior, hosted by the Squaxin Island Tribe, a number of Native nations informed the Assistant Secretary of the challenges they are facing in the development of renewable energy resources on tribal lands. The Sealaska Native Corporation, a corporation created under the Alaska Natives Claims Settlement Act, is hosting a meeting of a newly-formed consortium, the Indian Country Renewable Energy Resources Consortium (ICREC), on Thursday, September 3, 2009, in Sealaska's offices in Bellevue, Washington. The purpose of the meeting is to familiarize Native nations and organizations, as well as their partners and investors in renewable energy resource development, with the work of the consortium -- including the development of tribal provisions for inclusion in national energy resource development and climate change legislative initiatives, and effective strategies for the development of renewable energy resources on Native lands. More information on ICREC is attached to this announcement. To facilitate participation in the meeting, Sealaska and the Northwest Indian Fisheries Commission (NWIFC) are offering their video-conference capacities for those Native nation representatives that may be closer to one of the video-conferencing centers of the NWIFC or Sealaska. The meetings will begin at 9:00 a.m. on September 3rd. For those who wish to participate in person, the Sealaska offices are located at 13810 S.E.
